Grow G1 In Cambodia, Josh was reading Psalm 46:10. He asked God for a sign and then later that day there was a plaque on the wall of the random hotel he ended up at in Cambodia with that verse on it. What does this story reveal about God’s nature? G2 What did you think or feel about Josh’s salvation testimony? G3 Josh said he “street preaches” because of scripture (Rom. 10:14), and because we are told to go (Matt. 28:19-20). What other reasons are there to share our faith? G4 Josh discusses excuses we give not to talk about Jesus. In Exodus 4:10 and Jeremiah 1:6-7 what excuses do we read about? Are these legitimate? Why or why not? G5 Josh shared the story of the guy burning the Satanist Bible and the guy whose Dad died while Josh was talking to him. Incredible or what? Are there similarly “hungry” people on our streets? G6 Josh talks about feeling nervous the first time he preached on the street. We aren’t all street preachers, but what faith-act that you are being held back from doing by nerves or fear? Can faith even exist without fear / nerves? Show S1 Josh said “For me it was impossible to ever come to love God”. Who do you know who is an impossible case? Knowing that God can reach the “Josh Wallis’” of this world, be encouraged to start (or continue) praying for them.

G2 What do you think Abraham was thinking or feeling in the 3 day trek to Mount Moriah? G3 Dan said when encountering tough passages like Genesis 22, not to avoid them. Why do you think this is important? G4 Can you think of other tough passages in the Bible that you struggle with? G5 Dan advised to use the “lens of Jesus” to help understand or engage with tough passages (see Luke 24:27). How might this be helpful? Grow G1 What do you think it might have been like to live in Hagar’s household with her owner (Sarah), father of her child (Abraham) and her son’s younger half-brother who was the heir (Isaac)? How might you have responded to that environment if you were Hagar? G2 Why do you think the Bible puts so much stock in names (Ishmael: The God Who Sees, El-Roi: The God Who Sees, Isaac: He laughs)? The Passage: Psalm 33:1-12 The One Thing: God’s Creative Connection | Why We Worship Growgroup Discussion Starters Know K1 What stood out to you from today’s sermon? Grow G1 Do you ever ask “Why do we gather together and worship God?” What answer do you give yourself? G2 Dan gave two reasons to worship God: His word and work in governing (vv4-5) and his word and work in creation (v9). What did you think about the “Sverdrup” (a unit of measurement?. Consider why it is a comfort that God creates, and God governs. G3 What do you think about the truth that God doesn’t answer our question with “Because I said so”. What are other reasons you can think of that God gives for us to worship and serve him. G4 Yes, God governs (vv4-5), but there is still suffering. What reasons did Dan give for the presence of suffering and evil, despite the fact that “God is on the throne”? Share your thoughts about this. G5 God could do away with sin and suffering once and for all. He’s God. So, let’s imagine he does that…right now. What might be the (unexpected) consequences of this? G6 The third reason to worship God is that one day he will make everything right. And even in these times of waiting, he’s frustrating the plans of the country leaders around the world (vv10-12).
