G3 Do you identify more with David in 1 Samuel 17:5—53 or with the Israelite soldiers? Why do you think this is? G4 In the light of 1 John 2:1-2, what did Dan mean when he said “What you do now matters more than what you did then?” G5 Imagine you were one of the soldiers in verse 52 and 53: as a soldier witnessing David’s victory and the Philistines’ retreat, how did seeing God’s power through David change your faith or perspective on God's ability to deliver His people from seemingly impossible situations? G6 David was young when he defeated Goliath, yet he set a powerful example for the entire nation of Israel. In light of 1 Timothy 4:12, how can you, regardless of your age, set an example for others in your faith and actions, especially when facing challenges or "giants" in your life? Show S1 Meditate on 1 Samuel 17:47 and pray for David’s confidence to face whatever is coming next.

Scripture: 1 Samuel 8:4-20; 11:14-15 Know K1 Imagine if God set up a forcefield to prevent us ever doing anything sinful? How would this world operate? What would it look like? Grow G1 Why did the Israelites demand a king despite Samuel's warnings and God's guidance up to that point? What does this reveal about their relationship with God and their understanding of leadership? G2 Samuel outlines several negative consequences of having a king, including conscription, forced labor, and taxation (1 Samuel 8:11-18). Why do you think the Israelites were willing to accept these potential consequences? How does this reflect human nature or societal pressures? G3 How does God’s response to Israel’s request for a king (1 Samuel 8:7-9) reflect His understanding of human free will and His role as their divine leader? What can we learn from God’s willingness to grant their request despite knowing it wasn't in their best interest? G4 Scot McKnight discusses the transition from a theocracy to a monarchy in the biblical narrative. How does this transition reflect the changing dynamics of Israel’s relationship with God and human leaders? G5 How do the issues and concerns raised in 1 Samuel 8 regarding the desire for a human leader compare to modern-day leadership and governance? What lessons can contemporary societies draw from this biblical narrative about the nature of leadership and the expectations of those who are led? Show S1 Who is (or has been) your Samuel: someone that God has used to speak truth or warning into your life? How have you responded?

Why "one stone at a time"? Well, it answers the question: "how does a wall or a house or a church get built?" One stone at a time! Each act of kindness, each sacrifice of service, each word spoken in faith and love is a stone that builds up the edifice of Christ's body, the Church, here on earth as it is in heaven. Be encouraged as you hear updates and testimonies from our ministry leaders, as well as a review of the year-that-was from Dan. 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. How do these passages collectively illuminate the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer? G2 Luke 11:13 records Jesus' promise that the Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. How does this promise impact our prayer life and our dependence on God's Spirit for guidance, strength, and understanding? G3 Ephesians 5:18 instructs believers to be filled with the Spirit. What does it mean practically to be filled with the Spirit, and how does this command relate to living a life that honors God and reflects His character? G4 Acts 10:44-48 and Ephesians 5:18 both emphasize the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. How does being filled with the Spirit empower believers to live out their faith and engage in God's mission in the world? Show S1 Ken Schenck describes being filled with the Spirit in the following way "We can imagine that the most typical manifestation of the Holy Spirit is a sense of peace and assurance, a sense that, in fact, you are received by God and at peace with him. Ask him for this most wonderful gift: the gift of the Holy Spirit".

Grow G1 Why do you think Philip was in the specific location where he encountered the Ethiopian eunuch? What does this tell us about being open to divine opportunities in our everyday lives?
