K1 When is the last time you did something courageous?
Grow
G1 “Courage is not a strength you get at the gym but inner strength, that gumption, that determination. God wants to work on your insides not your outsides”. Imagine what your life my look like if you gave as much attention to your inward life as your visible life?
G2 Proverbs 24:10-12. If “rescuing the perishing” as Nathan said starts with telling your non-Christian peers about Jesus, why is it that we show little courage in this area?
G3 Nathan said our definition of courage needs to change
G4 Consider this verse: The wicked are edgy with guilt, ready to run off even when no one’s after them; honest people are relaxed and confident, bold as lions (Prov. 28:1). In what way is undealt-with sin connected with our courage or lack thereof?
G5 Courage is resistant to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear (Mark Twain). What in your life do you need to deal with courageously, in God’s power?
G6 Nathan talked about courage being transferrable, using the example of a bungee jumper inspiring others to bungee jump as well. In what ways are the people around you suffering from your lackof courage or being inspired by your presence of courage.
G7 What is the connection between courage and faith?
Show
S1 What is God calling you to do courageously. Pray to God, asking for courage to do what He’s calling you to. Then do it. Set yourself a date by which you will complete this task and share it with someone who can encourage you and hold you accountable.

G2 Read Romans 8:22-23 – how does this describe the longing or discontentment in the world? What is it that will slake / fill this longing?
G3 Prov. 16: – In what was is it “far better to be right and poor than to be wrong and rich” (MSG)? Which would you choose if it was a choice between the two? Do you know anyone who has suffered greatly for doing the right thing?
G4 Based on the sermon, how would you explain the concept of “leaning into the longing” to your friend?
G5 If we were made for relationship with Jesus / for His kingdom, do you think we will always have a part of us that is discontent with what we see in the world? Do you think, given Romans 8:22-23, that a Christian can ever be totally content / fulfilled this side of eternity?
G6 If you haven’t yet made Jesus your Lord, take time to make that right – lean into that longing that only He can meet. Have an honest conversation with Him.

G3 God is the creator. As beings made in His image, we are mini-creators; how could this knowledge of the creative power you possess effect how you live your day to day life?
G4 Consider the people who live in your corner of God’s universe: your neighbours (geographically close through circumstance) and your friends (emotionally close through choice). How is God calling you to speak recreation into their lives?

In the world today where do you see signs or indicators of this worldview in popular culture or the media?

G2 If the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Prov 1:8), then what is the destination or goal of wisdom?
G3 Dan said that pride is the absence of gratitude. How then do we account for Luke 18:9-14 where the Pharisee seems to be both proud and grateful?
G4 Dan said that pride is at the root of all other sins. Do you agree with this statement or not? Think of examples.
G5 Pride comes from within (Mark 7:20-23) but humility comes from without (Romans 12:3). How do these impact our struggle with pride? What are the weapons that we have at our disposal?
G6 How might viewing ourselves as (a) unworthy servants of Jesus (Luke 17:10) and (b) friends of Jesus (John 15:15) help is in living a God-honouring, healthy life? How does this connect with living with gratitude?
G7 Consider Nebuchadnezzar’s account in Daniel 4. Does this show God’s judgment or God’s love?
