In Isaiah 1, God speaks like a King who has raised His children, cared for them, and been rejected by them. What does that reveal about how God sees rebellion? 2. Isaiah says Israel “does not know” their Master and “does not recognize” His care. Where do people today resist Christ’s rule in similar ways? 3. How does Isaiah 1 challenge the idea that worship is only about religious activity rather than submission to God? 4. What does it look like to live under the kingship of Christ with both reverence and repentance? Growing in Groups 1. Isaiah 1 shows a people who had outward religion but inward rebellion. How can a group help each other avoid that kind of disconnect? 2. Why is it important for a group to ask honest questions about what is really going on in our hearts, not just what we do on the outside? 3. Isaiah calls God’s people to “reason together” and to be washed clean. How can a group create space for confession, encouragement, and growth? 4. What practices help a group move beyond attendance into real spiritual participation? Showing up and Serving 1. Isaiah 1 says God rejects empty sacrifices but calls His people to “seek justice” and “defend the cause of the fatherless.” What does that tell us about true worship? 2. Where do you see people in your community who need someone to show up, help, defend, or advocate for them? 3. Isaiah connects faith with action toward the oppressed, widows, and vulnerable. What would that look like for our youth group or church? 4. Why do you think God cares more about justice and mercy than outward religious performance?

Tuesday Apr 14, 2026
Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, North Gower is taking 2026 to read through and preach through the Bible using the "One Story That Leads To Jesus" Bible reading plan (created by "The Bible Project").
To this end, Pastor Nate and Pastor Dan are recording their usual "sermon prep" conversation as a podcast so you can get a bird’s eye view of the process, and perhaps grow in your own understanding and faith. This conversation is rough and unfinished, and not everything we talk about will make its way into the final teaching. But it hopefully gives you some additional food for thought.

12 April 2026 | One Story That Leads To Jesus – The Chariots of Fire Sermon (2 Kings 6:8-22)
Growgroup Discussion Starters
Know Christ as King (Head – understanding God and the story)
1. In 2 Kings 6:8–17, what is happening in both the visible (Aramean army) and invisible (heavenly army) realms? What does this reveal about God’s power and activity?
2. The kings of Israel at this time are described as doing “evil in the eyes of the Lord,” yet God is still actively protecting Israel through Elisha; what does this tell us about how God works through His prophets even when leaders and nations are spiritually off track?
Grow in Christlikeness (Heart – loving God and aligning our desires)
1. The servant is overwhelmed with fear until God opens his eyes; where in your life do you feel surrounded or afraid right now, and how might God want to reshape your perspective?
2. Elisha’s story includes chariots of fire both when Elijah is taken up (2 Kings 2) and when the heavenly army surrounds Dothan (2 Kings 6); what might God be showing about His power and presence through these repeated images?
3. We often internalize our fears, but the servant speaks out (“What shall we do?”); how might sharing your fears with a mature believer (an “Elisha” figure) change your experience of those fears?
Show Christ to the world (Hands – living on mission)
1. Who is an “Elisha” in your life—someone who can encourage you with truth and pray for you—and what is one step you can take this week to intentionally connect with them, or begin becoming that kind of person for someone else?

5 April 2026 | EASTER SUNDAY | One Story That Leads To Jesus – The Temple Sermon (1 Kings 6:11-13)
Growgroup Discussion Starters
Know Christ as King (Head – understanding God and the story)
1. God’s desire to dwell with His people unfolds across history: Eden (creation, before ~2000 BC; Genesis 3:8), the Tabernacle (~1446 BC; Exodus 25:8), Solomon’s Temple (~966 BC; 1 Kings 6–8), its destruction by Babylon (586 BC), Zerubbabel’s Temple (~516 BC; Ezra 6:15), its expansion by Herod (~20 BC), and its destruction by Rome (AD 70); how does seeing this timeline help you understand God’s persistent desire to be with His people?
2. In 1 Kings 6:11–13, what does God promise about His presence in the temple, and how does this point forward to Jesus as the true and lasting temple (John 2:19–21)?
Grow in Christlikeness (Heart – loving God and aligning our desires)
1. What stirs in you when you realize that across all these centuries, God’s consistent desire has been to dwell with His people—and now in you?
2. We often picture prayer as speaking “up” to God or “out” to somewhere distant—but if God dwells in us by His Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), how might it reshape your prayer life to think of speaking inward to God? What difference might that make to your sense of closeness, honesty, or dependence?
Show Christ to the world (Hands – living on mission)
1. If you are now a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), what is one concrete way that should shape your actions or choices this week?
2. How can you intentionally reflect God’s presence to someone this week—helping them see that God is not distant, but desires to be with them?

29 Mar 2026 | Growgroup Discussion Starters The One Story – Reviewing Assumptions | 2 Samuel 6:1-23
Know Christ as King (head – understanding God and the story)
1. In 2 Samuel 6:6–8, what do Uzzah’s death and David’s response teach us about God’s holiness? How does this challenge common assumptions people have about God—especially in light of A. W. Tozer’s quote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us”?
2. In 2 Samuel 6:9–12, after seeing God bless Obed-Edom, David revisits his assumptions and approaches God differently. What does this reveal about David’s heart, and what changed in how he viewed God?
Grow in Groups (heart – personal faith and formation)
1. Reflecting on John 12:12–16 and 1 Corinthians 1:18, how does the cross show that God is both holy and good? Have you ever had to “review your assumptions” about God in light of this truth? What led to that shift?
2. The sermon highlights two wrong assumptions about God’s character (see 2 Samuel 6:6–11): “God isn’t holy” and “God isn’t good.” Which one are you more prone to believe in your heart, especially in difficult seasons?
3. In 2 Samuel 6:16 and 6:20–23, Michal despises David’s worship while David has clearly changed in how he approaches God. What might this contrast reveal about their hearts, and how can we resist becoming stuck or hardened in our own assumptions about God?
Show up and Serve (hands – living it out)
1. As we enter Holy Week, what is one intentional way you can slow down and reflect on Jesus—especially the cross as the place where God’s holiness and goodness meet (John 12:12–16; 1 Corinthians 1:18)?
2. Thinking about John 12:12–16 and 1 Corinthians 1:18, who could you invite to join you at our Good Friday service or our Easter Sunday baptism service, and how might that invitation help them see the true character of God in Jesus?

In 1 Samuel 13:11–15, why does God call Saul’s action “foolish” even though he was trying to seek the Lord’s favour? What does this reveal about obedience under Christ’s kingship? 2. 2 Chronicles 16:9 says that “the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” How does this shape our understanding of God’s role while we are waiting? Grow in Groups (heart – personal faith and formation) 1. Where in your life are you currently “waiting” on God? How does knowing that God is actively looking to strengthen you (2 Chronicles 16:9) change how you experience that waiting? 2. The sermon describes “disobedience masked as religious devotion.” Where might you be tempted to justify your actions instead of trusting and obeying God fully? Show up and Serve (hands – living it out) 1. What is one specific area this week where you can choose to trust God’s timing and obey, rather than taking control like Saul? 2. Who around you is in a difficult season of waiting? How can you practically remind them this week that God sees them and is at work (2 Chronicles 16:9)?
