Grow G1 What is one prayer that you are glad God did not answer? G2 What encouragement do you see in Luke 11:1-13 to “Keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking”? G3 In what was does Jesus use absurdity to argue His point in our passage? What point is He trying to make? G4 The Lord’s prayer (both in Luke 11:2-4 and Matt 6:9-13) ends with “lead us not into temptation”. It does not have “for yours is the kingdom, the power…”. This was added later by other people. What might be the advantage to ending the Lord’s prayer with “lead us not into temptation”? G5 What is the sense of God we get from our passage today? G6 Think about the way that each member of the Trinity is involved in Luke 11:13 (the Son is telling us that the Father gives the Spirit). What do we learn about the function or role of each member of the Trinity from this verse? Show S1 Consider the word “shameless audacity” in Luke 11:8. How can you start introducing shameless audacity into your prayers? Start praying shamelessly audacious prayers to God this week.

The Passage: Luke 10:38-40
The One Thing: Simplify
Growgroup Discussion Starters
Know K1 If you had one day to pack a “grab and go” backpack ready for the apocalypse, what would you pack? Remember you can only pack what you can carry! Grow G1 What are the many things that you are worried about? One the handout or in a notebook write out the many things you are worried or concerned about as if it is a prayer to Jesus. G2 Jesus says in Luke 10:42: “few things are necessary”. What few things might he be talking about? G3 He narrows is down to “indeed, only one”? What is He getting at? What is the “one thing”? Why did Jesus not spell out specifically what the “one thing” is? G4 Think about your life – where are your priorities either in line with or out of whack with Jesus’ “many things, few things and one thing”? Is your current way of doing life making you happy? G5 What verses can you think of that point us towards this “one thing” (couple of possible answers: Luke 10:28-29, John 5:30, Micah 6:8, Matthew 16:24-26, Gal 5:6). Any others you can think of? G6 How is Mary an example of us being UNEXPECTED or COUNTER-CULTURAL is choosing the one thing? What ways is Jesus calling you to be counter-cultural in choosing the one thing? Show S1 Go throughout your day saying to God “I choose you”. Set yourself a reminder every hour on your phone saying “I choose God”.

The Passage: Luke 10:25-37 The One Thing: Action Required: Go and do likewise
Growgroup Discussion Starters Know K1 Have you ever had a moment when you felt God was calling you to do something and you “passed by on the other side”?
Grow G1 Is faith alone required for salvation or is works required too? Compare Ephesians 2:8-10 with James 2:26. G2 Luke 10:25 | The lawyer was trying to “test” Jesus. The same word is used in Luke 4:12 and 1 Cor. 10:9. What does this word “test” tell us about the motivation / heart of the lawyer? G3 Luke 10:29 | The lawyer wanted to “justify” himself. Read the verse before (28), and try to figure out what he was wanting to justify himself about? G4 Why is justifying ourselves a waste of time? Read Romans 3:28, 5:1 and 1 Cor. 6:11 to find the answer. Now revisit question G1 and see if your answer has changed. G5 Why does Jesus not mentio “grace” or “trusting in Jesus” at all (or ANY of our familiar salvation language) in His response to the lawyer’s question “What must I do to inherit eternal life”? G6 What do you think the lawyer did next after Jesus said “Go and do likewise” in v37? Did he go and do likewise or not?
Show S1 Luke 10:27: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” What is the Holy Spirit calling you to “go and do likewise” so that you can “inherit eternal life”?

Growgroup Discussion Starters Know K1 What are your plans for Canada Day this weekend? Grow G1 Who in our passage today had true power? Rank and compare the relative power of each person. G2 2 Kings 5:11 I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. (NIV). | What are the dangers of bringing our assumptions to God particularly when dealing with our own hardships? G3 2 Kings 5:13 Naaman's servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” (NIV) | Why is trusting in Jesus’ finished work through faith such a HARD thing for people to do? G4 Wash yourself. Jordan River. 7 times. What might God be trying to communicate through this symbolism. G5 Why is it significant that the hero of the story is a “little girl” and that when Naaman is healed he becomes like a “little boy”? How is God calling you to become like a little child? Talk to Him about this. Show S1 Think about your life right now. Are there any assumptions that you’ve been placing on God that you need to repent of?

Know
K1 Have you ever been in a street team or fan club? If your answer is no, whose fan club would you like to be in?
Grow
G1 The word “Angelos” (which means “messengers” refers almost exclusively in the NT to angels (angelic beings). What is the significance of it being used to refer to humans in Luke 9:52?
G2 What did you make of the responses to Jesus in vv58-62? Were they valid? Why did Jesus respond the way He did? What attitudes might he have been responding to in each case?
G3 Dan said that Jesus specifically recruited people who were the “least” and were even hostile to Him (the Samaritans). Should this be encouraging to us or should we be worried?
G4 Which of these reasons are the most likely reason for you to say “no” to Jesus: Reading the small print? Unreadiness? Unsteadiness? Show

Passage: Luke 8:26-38
Know
K1 What are some of the strange Bible stories that you have heard or remember hearing? What kinds of questions did they leave you with?
Grow
Have some discussion/reflection around the three perspectives and questions surrounding the demonic possession of the pigs:
G1. The demons wish to get as far away from Jesus as possible
• If Jesus interrupts our comfort or to see His kingdom costs us something, will we follow? Or will we push Him away?
G2. To illustrate that the demonic realm can only have control over people when we become like swine.
• Are there ways that I am currently living more like an animal, than as an image bearing child of God?
• What does this leave me vulnerable to?
G3. The demons thought that it would secure a victory over Jesus in this region.
• Are we going to join Him in His rescue mission?
• What are some ways that you can do this?
• 1 Peter 3:15 says: “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” In what ways are you prepared to share your faith? In what ways could you better prepare to be on mission?
Show
S1. Write out your testimony.
• Learn to tell the long detailed version of your story (why you believe what you believe)
• Break it down to the main 2-4 points
• Learn to tell your story with just one point
S2. Pray for opportunities to share your faith.
• Ask not only for the opportunities to come, but also spend some time asking God how you can be more aware when these opportunities present themselves.
• Pray for specific people that God is laying on your heart (write these prayers down, and be as specific as you feel led to be)

The Passage: Romans 5:1-5
The One Thing: The Greatest Intervention of all time and you want me to do what?
Growgroup Discussion Starters
Know
K1 What am I known for boasting about? Without telling anyone, pick one thing you boast about (if you were to boast) - i.e favourite sports team, car, grandkids, cottage, church, spouse. Have the people in the room try to guess what it is. Then reveal your answer after everyone has had a guess. For example, Pastor Dan might boast about being from Wales. He silently picks that one bragging point and then you go around the room and try to guess what his answer might be. At the end of everyone having a guess - reveal your answer. See who can guess the most correct answers.
Grow
G1 Read Romans 5:1-5 What makes the gospel the greatest intervention of all time?
G2 According to Paul, why does having peace with God make it possible to boast or rejoice in our pain?
G3 Paul says that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, character hope and hope brings us to a deeper awareness of God’s love. Have you experienced this? Or witnessed someone grow in such a way through suffering? If you are willing to, share your experience.
G4 In this passage how do you see the Trinity at work? How does each person of the Trinity express love?
Show
S1 If you are in the midst of pain and suffering:
Get help - whatever you are dealing with seek expert help-don't suffer for the sake of suffering
In the time of suffering - pray: Call out to God the Father for relief and healing
Invite the presence of the Holy Spirit into your pain and seek His peace
Focus on God’s greatest intervention, His Son Jesus, and what He wants you to know in this time It will help you persevere - as we have eternal life and this pain is temporary
Remember you are building Character
Lean into the Hope we have
Let that hope lead you to God’s faithful love
Rejoice in God’s presence and peace, and His greatest Intervention
If you are not suffering: Be available to those in suffering and be a presence of God’s peace
Unless you are an expert, don’t offer solutions. Instead offer comfort by way of support and prayer.

G2 Acts 16:6-7 | How did the Holy Spirit “STOP” Paul and his companions? Could they have pushed through regardless? What might the consequences have been if they had?

G4 Acts 16:9-10 | Have you ever received a burden for a person, people group or situation? Might this be God telling you “WARMER…”? Think of how you could determine if this is the case.

Why is why not? G4 Dan said that Acts 10 (and 11) is as important as Pentecost. Why is this? G5 Dan said “It is true the gateway to Kingdom Life in Jesus is wider that cultural and geography and politics. But it does not open one inch wider than Jesus.” Take some time to ponder this. G6 In what ways can we make the door to Kingdom Life too narrow? Read Acts 10:30-33. What "signs of life" did Cornelius show? Why wasn't this enough to enter the Kingdom? G7 In what ways can we make the door to Kingdom Life too wide? Read Acts 10:34-43. List how many specifics are mentioned in this account. Why is it important that the door has dimensions?
