- Have you ever had an argument with someone or a heated conversation, only to realize you actually both agreed, you were just using different terminology?

- Read 8:31. What do you think was going through Jesus mind as He shared this list of things He would endure?
- 8:33 It’s clear that Peter and Jesus had different interpretations of the word “Messiah”. Instead of telling Peter that he misunderstands, why did Jesus harshly call Peter “Satan”?
- Read 8:31 and 8:34. Note how many times the word “must” is used or implied.
- 8:31 - Why was there no other way that Jesus could provide salvation for us?
- 8:34 – Why is denying ourselves and taking up our cross an essential part of following Christ?
- Why should we be a little careful when we use the phrase “It’s just my cross to bear” when talking about the hardships of life? Reference 8:34.
- What is your reaction when you hear about the religious tradition of people actually crucifying themselves in the Philippines?
- Read 8:36. What are some ways that we can see ourselves or our culture ‘devalue’ the human soul? How does the gospel of Jesus change the narrative?
- Read 8:38. What does it mean that Jesus will be ashamed of some people when He returns?

- This week, take some time to pray through Mark 8:31, thanking Jesus for what He did for you. Also take some time to pray through Mark 8:34-37 and listen to what God reveals to you through these verses.
