G1 Is faith alone required for salvation or is works required too? Compare Ephesians 2:8-10 with James 2:26.
G2 Luke 10:25 | The lawyer was trying to “test” Jesus. The same word is used in Luke 4:12 and 1 Cor. 10:9. What does this word “test” tell us about the motivation / heart of the lawyer?
G3 Luke 10:29 | The lawyer wanted to “justify” himself. Read the verse before (28), and try to figure out what he was wanting to justify himself about?
G4 Why is justifying ourselves a waste of time? Read Romans 3:28, 5:1 and 1 Cor. 6:11 to find the answer. Now revisit question G1 and see if your answer has changed.
G5 Why does Jesus not mentio “grace” or “trusting in Jesus” at all (or ANY of our familiar salvation language) in His response to the lawyer’s question “What must I do to inherit eternal life”?
G6 What do you think the lawyer did next after Jesus said “Go and do likewise” in v37? Did he go and do likewise or not?

S1 Luke 10:27: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” What is the Holy Spirit calling you to “go and do likewise” so that you can “inherit eternal life”?
